Problems with RDA

We have two machines with LabVIEW 6.0. To the first one is attached Multimeter and everything is OK, but in the second we try configure Multimeter as a Remote Device and here we have a problem, because when we try to select Remote Computer, program sees our network, even sees the first computer, but write :"Error in connecting to the remote machine". What is the reason of such problem?
Thank you for attention.

Tatyana,

I'm not sure if this applies to you, since you didn't mention what type of PC you are running, but I have the same problem with all of my PXI machines.

I have finally tracked the problem to this. All of the PXI machines on our network get the same IP address assigned by the network router. So when you try to connect to that IP address, the router does not know which one to connect to, and you get the error. If I have only PXI machine running, I can connect without problem.

Our network people here have not been able to figure out why they all get the same IP address. This should not be possible. They are still working on the problem. I've contacted NI about this also, but they have never seen it either.

I hope this gives you a place to start looki
ng. If you do find this to be the problem, and some one figures out how to correct it, please let me know so I can get mine fixed.

Good Luck

Using the Abort button to stop your VI is like using a tree to stop your car. It works, but there may be consequences.

Thank you for your answer Ed, but we find the reason by ourself (stuped reason), because, when we run configuration, we didn't run "RDA server" on machine with Multimeter, so that's why we had problems. But next problem is: in main machine Multimeter is configured as a Device in IVI Instruments, so our remote computer get in, but doesn't see any device to bee called RDA. If you ever had such problem, please help us. Thank for attention.

I don't think I can help you here. I've only used DAQ cards with the RDA server, never an IVI device. But if they work the same as DAQ cards, the remote computer should see the device if it is properly installed and setup.

Try running the test panel on your device locally to make sure it is working correctly.

Also, the RDA server is for Remote DAQ devices, so you may not be able to see an IVI device over the RDA server. I can' find any documentation to verify this, but it might be worth checking into.

Tatyana;

Added to the last response, just make sure you have the same version of NI-DAQ on both machines.
Hope this helps.
