Project very slow to load

Solved!
Go to solution

Hi, I am using LabView 8.6.1 to create a program that communicates to two Real time PXI units. I created a project and added the PXI targets no worries. Now when I load the project it takes up to 5 minutes to load. Any ideas why it is taking so long? There isnt even any VIs in the project yet. Cheers

I understand that the two RT-PXI are part of the project now. When loading the project, are those PXI accessable (connecte via network and using the same IP as when they were configured)? Do you have a very restrictive firewall/virusscan which could slow things down?

What happens if you create a new project and add only one of those PXI systems? Does it slow down as well? Does the slow down scale with the number of PXI systems?

I have one more suggestion.

When the Project has VIs which are not present on the disc, then it will take some time to do the operation like save, load etc...

Ok. So I have created a new project with no pxi controllers. There is no issues with loading vi's etc. I added one real time pxi controller to project, saved and closed the project then re-opened the project. It took 2.5 minutes to open. I then added a second real time controller to the project, saved and closed the project and then re-opened the project. It took roughly 5 minutes to load. This is very odd? The original project that I was using never used to have any issues. It appears as if there is some sort of timeout occuring. If I load the project then disconnect my network cable then it loads as fast as it did last week. Why the sudden change? I did upgrade to the latest device drivers. Not sure if this would have any affect. Could there have been some changes to the network maybe? If anyone can shed some more definitive light on this that would be great!

There is no restrictive netwrok firewalls etc. The PXIs are configured with the same IP etc that they had originally. This change happened basically overnight. I'm prety sure it was after I installed the latest daqmx drivers (for 8.6.1)

I just tried to re-deploy my library of networked shared variables and got this error:

Deploying TestLibrary.lvlib\\10.18.77.147\TestLibrary deployment failed (error: -2147220727, (Hex 0x80040309) The client process cannot communicate with the configuration server process. If this problem persists, please note the steps you performed that led to this error and contact technical support.).
Deployment completed with errors

Any ideas what is going on? this is driving me crazy. I have a deadline for this project by end of June and am fast slipping behind because of all these issues.

Now I am on the same subnet and still getting the same issues. It looks as if it is not a netwrok problem, rather a LabView problem.

If you updated the drivers on the host system, i recommend you to do so on the RT PXI as well.

You are correct that this issue sounds odd... i have never seen anything like this.

It is possible, that there is some corruption on your host system due to the driver update. Maybe (before updating the RT systems) you can check with another host system if the issue occurs there as well?

I have installed labview on two machines now. one on the same subnet and the other on the wider network. both have the same issues. should i reformat the pxi?

Hm, if the issue occurs with two different host systems, then i would rather think that there are maybe issues with the network. Are you aware of any changes/updates done by IT? Security patches, changes of software on router, ....

What you maybe can try is to isolate one of the host and connect one of the PXI using a cross cable directly to this host. Does the issue occur there again(still)?

You can format/reinstall one of the PXIs to do a cross check with one system with original state, the other with newly installed state.
