RT and Linux: Will I be able to load Matlab for Linux onto my RT target?

Here is a question - currently I need to load the Matlab Runtime onto a PC running Windows if I want make calls to a Matlab DLL or run a Matlab exe from LabVIEW. On a Desktop running RT I cannot do this as Matlab doesn't support the Pharlap or VXWorks real time operating systems.

However it DOES support Linux - will I be able to load the Matlab runtime onto my NI RT target (running Linux) and thus make calls to Matlab executables or shared libraries from LabVIEW?

Anyone willing to gaze into the crystal ball?

Hello,

In regards to the The MathWorks, Inc. MATLAB ® Runtime software it will depend on how it has been compiled.  Any additional software that is compatible with Linux RT must be compiled for an ARM Processor.

You can find more information and specifics regarding the Linux RT software in this white paper.

Thanks that does make sense. I had future desktop rt applications in mind (intel based systems). This would mean that linux rt would first have to be ported to this platform, is it a fair assumption that things are moving that way?

At this time I don't know if NI will be using RT Linux in this way in the future.  If RT Linux gets ported to RT Desktops, it likely would be a significant amount time from now.
