Real time PC target network issues

I am trying to run a 8.5.1 RT Labview on Dell Optiplex 755 with Core 2 Quad and two NICs.

I am getting a message "Unable to configure the primary network device"

I run it from a USB stick and in the safe mode it does not have problems establishing the network. The system passes the evaluatuion test.

The first NIC - onborad is Intel 82566DM- 2 Gigabit - not compatible and turned off in BIOS. 2nd one is Broadcom NetXtreme Gigabite board. I believe the chipset on this one is BCM 5751 but I dont see an easy way to confirm that. The evaluation test sees it as compatible Broadcom "57xx" board.

Any ideas as how to deal with it? I already turned off all unecessary ports in the Bios.

Hi Andy,

Odd error. Can you really find the true model of your Broadcom Chipset? Can you test with another networking card? What do you mean turned off all unnecessary ports in BIOS? Is the problem only showing up when if the computer is not in safe mode?

I went the easy way around it. I bought another NIC by Intel with a specific chipset and it works. I have a few generations of Dell PCs  at work and none of them is fully compatible with the RT LabView. I have been told that the test is only about 90% right and I guess I fall into the category of the 10%:)

Hi,

I have the same problem described in this topic.

I use a desktop PC with an ethernet board recognized as "broadcom57xx". When the pc boots in safe mode, it works well, allowing me to do everything (set IP, install software, ...).

When i boot the pc in normal mode, the message "Unable to configure the primary network device" appears.

At this moment I don't use a crossover cable, but in safe mode all works.

Is there something that I can do?

thanks

IMHO you cannot do anything. The test is not very meaningful. My good advice- stop wasting your time and buy an original Intel network card for about 30$ and all your problems will be gone.

Theese days companies like DELL or HP buy network chips that are not high top quality. They buy them for like 100$ per 100lbs 🙂 No decent motherboard company would use it but they are good for DELL.  A husewife would not see a difference. At my place none of the dell computers passed the NI test and I have decent computer dating 1998 to 2009.

Thank you for your answer.

If you already did it, can you give me the exact code of the ethernet board you used?

(anyway I already use an external ethernet board and not the integrated one of the motherboard)

I use Intel 82566DM-2 Gigabit NIC. However, make sure that you buy a NIC that will fit your motherboard. You know PCIvs PCI express...long vs short etc.
