Thanks Sam_Sharp.
Obviously I have tried google first and seen this page. As mentioned there, all later version of LabVIEW Real-Time support all the previous processors.
“In the chart below, LabVIEW Real-Time version 7.1 supports only Intel® Pentium® 3 and Intel® Pentium® 4 processors. All later version of LabVIEW Real-Time also support the Intel® Pentium® 3 and Intel® Pentium® 4.”
Since some CompactRIO devices such as NI cRIO-903x utilized Intel atom processors, I am wondering is it possible to use a desktop PC with this processor as an RT target.

Those cRIOs run LabVIEW Linux RT - the RT for Desktop PCs is the Pharlap-based RT. I don't know what the deal is with getting the sources for the LV Linux RT kernel from NI to compile yourself - but I imagine it's a very involved process! I would take it that the Atom processors aren't supported since they aren't on the list.
There is a tool you can run to evaluate the ability to run LV RT on a desktop PC, available here: https://knowledge.ni.com/KnowledgeArticleDetails?id=kA00Z0000019LwrSAE&l=en-US
At the bottom of the page are various links for the version of the tool that corresponds to the version of LV RT you want to use (e.g. 2013, 2015 etc.).
You can also try it - there is an 7-day evaluation available.
