Regarding ni 9870

Hi,

Currently, using a 9870 module attached to a chasis ni 9104. Can i just use the example from the labview to read data from the chasis and then write  the data to a maxon epos2 controller? thanks

Hi,

This KB is talking about programming the EPOS controller via LabVIEW.

But you will need a CAN HS module. The 9870 module is just a 4 port RS-232 interface.

EPOS2 controllers from maxon can be controlled through CAN, RS-232 and USB. Therefore a CAN interface is not mandatory !

Hi,

So you are saying that i can just communicate between the 9870 and epos2 controller using rs232 is it? Then can i just use the ni example regarding 9870? Because I need it to read data from another module, then using this 9870, it will then write the data to the epos2 controller.

I have never used the 9870 and therefore don't know the related examples. But I have developed applications based on maxon's library for LabVIEW and communicating with EPOS2 controllers through the serial and USB port of the computer.

alright then. Do you know the function for CAN? Do i need to use CAN function since i communicating using RS232?

JB said CAN is not necessary and that you can use RS-232 to programm or command your EPOS controller.

Therefore the 9870 and the examples provided by LabVIEW should be ok.

Hi Christian,

I have created a Fpga program for a module ni 9411 to read the encoder signal. I have successfully done that. Now I must transmit that data from that module to ni 9870. By using the example, do you think it is possible for me to do this? May I know what are the changes that i must change from this example to achieve this? I currently using a 9012 crio

Afai,

Out of your last post and the other threads you opend I would suggest you to call your local NI Office and ask for an engineer to assist you. We also offer Professional Services where an Applications Engineer could give you assistance for one or more days at your desk.

You might want to think about attending an FPGA class as well.
