I thinking you are going to be delaying the inevitable. In probably less than 1 or 2 years, something will occur with that PC and you'll be forced to upgrade it anyway.
I completely understand. This computer (and the XP ones) were essentially leftovers that other people were using before. The thing is, these computers are only used as an interface for one apparatus (4 instruments connected). Once this VI is written (and tested and implemented), I don't think it will be changed for a while. We're updating the interface of this apparatus by switching to LabVIEW because the old software has fallen out of support. As long as NI will support LV 2012 SP1, we'll probably still be using it.
[But if we follow that logic, Windows 2000 is out of service and XP's support only lasts through 2014…]
