What I do is build a full installation package for the first build. After that, I build smaller installers without the drivers/RTE. The first download is big, but the follow on ones are very small. This way, I don't have to worry about a customer trying to download the right drivers (or me picking out the right ones).
Also, if they need hardware drivers, there are so many drivers form NI with common components, that it will be a smaller installer when I create it, than if they download the drivers individually, and basically have to redownload the same common core stuff over and over.
