Search palette gets launched automatically sometimes

Solved!
Go to solution
Title says all. Everything was working fine and sometimes when an item was picked from the functions menu by right clicking on the block diagram and placed in the BD, the search pallete gets launched(Note: The function also gets selected and was dropped in the BD and search pallette also gets launched). Am i the only one to see this behavior? Am very sure that i didn't clicked anywhere. This behavior was not seen when the search pallete was launched manually initially.

I had that happen a long time ago. I think I was using 7.1 or 8.0 when I saw that problem. I ended up having to repair LabVIEW to fix the problem or maybe I had to reinstall it I don't remember. I haven't seen that in a long time though.

I did see something similar but in my case it turned out to be the widget an anemometer I had connected to a serial port and was not the search function but apparent random mouse moves and clicks. I had to call another developer over to enusre I was not going crazy. It turned out that if the air currents in my cube were just right Windows would see the anemometer as a mouse connected to the serail port!

So you aren't trying to interface with a serial widget are you?

Strange Ben.....

In my case am playing with Tektronix oscilloscope controlled remotely via ethernet. I did installed the instrument drivers for that. But that may not be a problem i suppose. Even when i browsed through normal programming functions and selecting a while loop, this issue happens.

Yes, I've seen that occasionally, but I never tried to track down the problem. What basically happens is that I try to pick something from the palette and everything becomes unresponsive for 10+ seconds, after which time the search palette appears and everything responds again.

I don't know if it is a LabVIEW issue or some interaction with a driver or e.g. antivirus software. A few weeks ago, I switched my antivirus to the new and free Microsoft Security Essentials and everything feels quite a bit snappier. 🙂 I have not seen that problem since, but will keep my eyes open.

(This is on a laptop wich does not interface to any hardware)

100% true. This is what i am facing.

Altenbach, i tried installing the microsoft security essentials from the link you gave. But for installing this all the previous antivirus software needs to be uninstalled. This is bit risky (atleast for me) it seems. Anyway thanks for the post.

It is a general rule that only one AV should be active at any give time, else they tend step on each other's toes. 😉

If you are happy with your current AV, just keep it. Most commercial AV seem too bloated for my taste.

I see this on a fairly regular basis.

It's really annoying.  The only way to work around it is to just leave the window open after the first time.  This happens tome about 3-4 times a day.

Shane.
