It was completed unrelated. Found a file open/write that was failing and causing the loop it was in to run over and over again. Problem was that the loop was created untimed (not by me) and so the failed file open made the untimed loop hog all the CPU usage. It was an ugly bug and tough to find. I was just able to figure out what was doing it using the Distributed Systems Manager.
