Silverlight max 4.7

I have just installed Labview 2010 and max 4.7. When I have restart computer and get in to Max and select one remote system, it came up that I need to install Microsoft Silverlight. I did that and restart computer, but when I open Max I get an error message. It's something about a script and when I have click OK buttons it's only appear a blue circle and 100%. See attachment and after a while MAX freeze. I have repair Max and reinstalled Silverlight. WHAT'S WRONG? (I'm sorry that some of the dialog are in swedish). Silverlight works fine on Microsoft webpage.

Hi mosbif

I heard from a collegue that you have been in contact with support regarding this. I can just rehash what has been discussed. From your screendumps it can be deduced that this is a problem with Silverlight crashing. The crash has to do with an unsupported Culture setting (CultureNotSupported), namely Japanese (ja-JP). Now, what is causing this is very hard to say. As a company standard we run on english OS:es so we don't have MAX 4.7 running on a swedish OS at the moment. We are looking into testing that, but that being the problem has a very low probability.

I have found the problem. You need to have English as choosen language in "Regional and Language options"-"Regional options"-"

"standard and format". The right comma, date and so on.

Hi again

That's good news. I was just about to post a follow up questions: Does SilverLight work when used in IExplorer (or another browser) or as a plugin to elsewhere? A demo is avaliable here. What happens if you change back to Swedish (if that was the original setting) and run the demo, does it crash?

Best Regards

I have test Silverlight at Microsofts webpage, and it works fine with swedish settings, but not in Max. Max doesnt work either if I switch to english, and then back to swedish. I think the problem is Max.

This problem may not only happen on a Swedish language system.

I also have just loaded LV2010 and have a similar issue.  Using English as default language, I can see that there are remote Compact RIO systems on my network with MAX, and I can update the NI-RIO ver on the remote CRIO systems from 3.3 to 3.5.1, but when I try to access the screens (again, in MAX) that should allow me to configure the network setup (i.e., IP address and mask), I get an error which tells me that Silverlight 4 must be loaded.

I have unloaded and reloaded Silverlight 4, but the issue persists.  It happens with a PC running Win 7-64bit, and Vista 32-bit.

Dear Mosbif,

some days ago I have installed the LabVIEW 2010 DS2 and I got an analogous error when with MAX 4.7.0f4 I tried to retrieve remote target settings.

In my case I got two kind of message:

- Unhandled Error in Silverlight Application ... and so on ...

- Unhandled exception in Network Configuration Extension ... and so on ...
The second only for the Network Settings.

It's something about an error in the script and when I have clicked both the NO button or the YES button, it's only appeared a blue circle and 100%.

My system is:
LabView 2010 DS2
+ FPGA 2010
+ Real-Time 2010

The OS is
Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 3 - Italian
Microsoft Silverlight 4.0.50524.0 - 2010

I have open a local support call.

I read your post and I tried the workaround that you suggested and in my case it works fine!

Particularly, I have changed the "Regional and Language options" from Italian to English and now MAX 4.7.0f4 works fine.
I tried to switch back the "Regional and Language options" from English to Italian and the error is back here.
I tried also the proposed Silverlight demo, and it works fine both in Italian and in English.

I hope that NI will solve it, the "Regional and Language options" are very important for data saving, in Italian the decimal point is the comma.

Thank you very much for your workaround suggestion.

Hi Asper, Mosbif,

One potential workaround to this is to install support for East Asian languages. On XP, you'll need to go to the Control Panel, then open Regional and Language Options. Click the Language tab, and check the "Install files for East Asian languages" box. Can both of you try this out and let us know if it resolves the issue?

Hi Justin,

I have installed the support for East Asian languages and I have switched back the "Regional and Language options" from English to Italian and now MAX 4.7.0f4 works fine.

Please consider that the support for East Asian languages costs 230 Mb of disk space.

Thanks,

Asper
