Same here!

I don't know what ...

I bought the DSC module for this purpose.  I have installed the optional keyboard filter that comes with the DSC module.  When I add a user to the Advanced Keyboard option in the Security menu under Options it will let me add the user, but the check box (Special keys disabled) gets unchecked after I close out the menu.  And my windows key still works when I am running a VI. Maybe I'm missing a step.

Maybe I just don't have DSC installed on the machine and things have moved since I last looked. SO post a screen shot to help us understand you.

If english isn't your native language you can post in your native tongue and that may also help us help you.

Isn't that like putting the cart before the horse?

Why would you want to rely on an application like LabVIEW/DSC module to implement security issues that are occurring at the operating system level?

You should be setting the registry to prevent it.  Disabling user rights so they can't run browsers and or whatever else you don't want them doing.

If you really want to fix it, go into your keyboard and try breaking those keys so they don't function.  Scratch off the traces on the PCboard.

Ben,

He's talking about Tools>>Options>>Security. If you have the DSC and have installed the NI Keyboard Filter Driver you end up with another component called the Advanced Keyboard Option on that options page. I have the DSC but have not installed the driver so I can't test.

Have you logged off after selection and seen if that selection holds?

Did you log on as one of the users/groups you restricted?

GovBob,

yes, I logged in as the user(s) that I restricted.  I even restarted Labview.

Ben,

I posted some screen shots in this thread.  Look at the 7th post in this thread.  1.jpg and 2.jpg.

RavenFan,

if you can't help me do it the way I want then please don't offer any advice.  I clearly stated at the beginning of this post that I did not want to go into the

registry.  There must be a reason that I don't want to, so please respect that.

We really don't need the attitude.Smiley Mad

I'm just trying to point out that I think you are looking at this whole problem backwards.  You are trying to use something on the application level to catch a problem you are having at the hardware/OS level.

Yes you said "clearly" that you don't want to work in the registry, but you haven't given any good explanation as to why you don't want to work on the registry.  Are you scared of it?  How is the windows key even causing some sort of security issue for you?  If that is causing a security issue, and you somehow figure out how to get the application of LabVIEW to disable that key which is handled at the hardware/OS level, you probably still have dozens of other security loopholes you still haven't accounted for.  (such as Ctrl-Alt-Del to get to task manager ???)

Sometimes people ask a question looking for an answer, but even if there is an answer to that question, it really doesn't solve the problem they actually have.  So you may not like it, but sometimes getting smacked up along side the head to get you thinking about the problem a different way can actually help you.

I will have to bow out of this thread since I can not offer any assistance.

But on the topic of preventing an user from accessing anything other than the app...

If the app has a path control with the browse button enabled, it is possible to right click a file in the browser and choose "Open with...".

Has nayone managed to close that hole?

We would have to write our own file browser*?

Ben

* Wait a minute, I wrote one of those.

Raven, not trying to get angry here.  I realize what you are trying to tell me and I agree with all of your points.  But I'm trying to do this 1. because the DSC module is suppose to be able to do it and 2. I am merely dealing with dumb operators that may hit the windows key.  I do not have privileges to edit the registry.  It is something that I don't want to get involved with at my company.  I am just asking for some help with a feature that is suppose to work and I have yet to get it to work.

Ben, is there anyone else that may know what I might be doing wrong?

If you just purchased this software then you should have a valid support account so you can call NI and ask for support.

If you get an anwer please post back som others can find your solution when they "walk the path you are blazing".

Ben

PS: Don't be suprised if support never heard of this. Be patient with them, and just explain what you told us.
