Standard IEC 61850

Does anybody knows whether NI Harwdare & Software are competable with the standard IEC 61850.

It would be nice if someone could send something.

Hi metrisys,

As far as I can tell NI does not have any official listing of hardware and software that are compatible with the IEC 61850 protocol.  I don’t believe NI has a direct (plug and play) solution of hardware and software for this protocol.

That being said, most solely digital or analog communication protocols can be implemented on cRIO or one of NI’s other FPGA products often with a non-trivial amount of programming.  Higher level protocols may be a little more straight forward to implement.

For the IEC 61850 protocol, I have heard of another user that was able to determine that it was supported on cRIO. 

It would be helpful if anyone that reads this post could take the time to post back with examples of hardware and software they have used with the IEC 61850 protocol.

My company now uses ADI blackfin to deal with IEC61850.

We noticed it would too much to do with NI's SW/HW, and at last we choose DSP as a solution, I would also want to learn if there is any one can provide us a working example.

BTW, we are mainly focus on 61850-9-1 and -9-2, which means for -9-1, as the modules from NI only support operate NIC from higher then TCP/IP level, we have already roll out the possiblilty of implement 61850-9-1 in NI HW platform.

But for -9-2, I beleive there is a chance to implement in NI's nice gears, say, cRIO or PXI, it seems should works for me, but there might jump out lots of problems, it's always not a easy job to to jump to a whole new area.
