THIRD PARTY PURCHASE OF NI ELVIS II+

I purchased an NI ELVIS II+ board from Valuetronics (A third party vendor), they purchased this from DeVry University, who originally purchased the board from NI. I do not have software for this, I am needing a 2013 version of LabView and NI has no way of recognizing the serial number that HAS NEVER CHANGED in their system. This board is 10 years old. DeVry doesn't hold purchase history from 10 years ago. I can't renew my SSP Benefits through NI, I can't renew a contract with them, I can't get any help with this serial number 15F9EA9 for the NI ELVIS II+. Although I received an email that the product did register under My Products, and crazy thing that the system did recognize that it is an ELVIS II+ board. How can I go about this as I haven't received any information from NI going on two weeks, other than I need to run around the nation asking for purchase history.

Hi Marsha,

call your local NI sales rep and purchase the software you need…

Best regards,

NI said "There is nothing we can do because we do not recognize the serial number." Either way, the run around of me calling all of these people for NI to figure out the "REAL" serial number when it says clearly on the hub and the board, You would think that NI has purchase records from all of this, yet still I have zero support and this is the only place they will allow me to ask for help. When I NEED THEM TO RENEW MY SSP BENEFITS AND CONTRACT. Absolutely utterly confused.

Marsha,

There are a couple of things you're running into here.

First, the SN you're using isn't the one they're wanting.  You're asking for software while providing a hardware SN.  They're looking for software entitlements with the SN you're providing (which won't provide any results because it isn't a software SN).

You shouldn't worry about updating your SSP.  That's not really useful to you here.  If the software was purchased 10 years ago, there wouldn't be a discount to renew.  You'd be purchasing the full price regardless.  That's likely not something you're wanting to do.

As the hardware was originally purchased by an academic institution, it's probable they had the Academic Site License for their software and that wasn't transferable.  When they sold the hardware, the next user had their own software license.  Now, you've purchased the hardware (without software) and are looking for the software license.  I'm sure this is incredibly frustrating.

I don't know why the support you're working with wouldn't have shared this with you.  There's likely something lost in communication here between your expectations, what you're trying to do, and what they understand you're trying to do.

As you think about this, keep in mind hardware can be sold with, or without, software.  If it always included software, you'd have some very upset people when they're paying for software they don't want.  (Like the university that originally purchased this).  You generally won't have success getting software sharing the SN of hardware.  They're often two different things being tracked in these systems.
