Trouble activating FPGA module 9.0.1?

I attempted to refamiliarize myself with the ACTIVATION WIZARD in the NI Licensing Mgr program.  In an attempt to do so I deactivated my FPGA module & then attempted to reactivate again.  Within the ACTIVATION WIZARD I choose the option for the web browser to aquire my activation codes.  I type in my serial # as prompted then thit NEXT and on the following dialog box I hit the link to ni.com/activate.  My browser pops up & I get prompted through the entries & I get a VALID activation code generated for my computer ID & license serial #.  I simply copy & paste it into the ACTIVATION WIZARD after hitting NEXT once again.  I then get the message, "These activation codes do not correspond to any of the products you are activating".

What possibly am I doing WRONG procedurally?  I have spent the past 3 hours trying to rectify this.  I think I will GO HOME & hopefully tomorrow AM someone will have an enlightening message for me as to why I am SCREWING the POOCH on this.  It is my impression that if I did not have a proper computer ID & license # the website will not generate any activation code whatsoever?

APPRECIATE any HELP

Hi tsunami,

Is there any reason you are activating using a web browser rather than the "Automatically activate through a secure Internet connection" option?

When the activation wizard asks you for your serial number does it auto populate or you have to type it in?  Do you click "ni.com/activate" from within the wizard or do manually navigate to that address?  If you manually navigate to the website, are you selecting the correct version of the FPGA Module?

When I do it automatically I get a message that the serial # is either invalid or this module is not available for this serial # & asks me to correct the information.  However, when I manually select to go to the ni.com/activate web link it then spits out all of the activation codes for all of my toolkits & modules & the FPGA module is listed.

Now as to which FPGA module I assume I am selecting the correct one or the website would not generate any activation codes, correct?  I do see on my license manager FPGA module for both LABVIEW 2009 & LABVIEW 2009 SP1.  Could this be causing some kind of conflict?  I am positive I deactivated the module within the SP1 dropdown directory.

Now I am pretty confused on why this is not working.  I do have 3 different license serial #'s, but I assume FPGA module is associated with only 1 of them.  If I type in either of the other 2 I presume the website would declare that an activation code could not be generated, correct?

I will do this exercise once more, but so far I have had NO LUCK.  I probably should generate a service call # on this issue.

If it helps I could take a screenshot of the website display of activation codes, but I am not sure releasing that info would cause others to gain unauthorized access to the software license.

Looking for HELP

I redid the exercise I suggested earlier.  I entered all 3 serial #'s I have in my posession & only 1 of the 3 generates an activation code.  I then entered that code in all of the FPGA module options listed in the License Manager dropdown directory of "Local Licenses" & it will not reactivate the module.

Do I need to REINSTALL that module?  If so how do I go about doing that for the FPGA module exclusively without doing REINSTALL on other packages as well?

BTW: My REAL-TIME module is active.  It was associated with the license serial # that is also associated with the FPGA module.  The 2 were purchased together since they both are needed to work with a C-RIO.

Hoperfully this helps diagnose the problem.

You want to be right clicking the product you want to activate rather than using the activate button on the top of the manager as shown in the picture below.

If you are already doing this, I would suggest calling our support phone line since we will need sensitive information to continue trouble shooting.

David,

I relented & did call in & was provided a different activation code.  The tech rep tried to explain what was occurring, but was not aware of the cause.  The consequence was that his explanation was not all that clear, but somehow the activation code generated on the website was not being recognized by LABVIEW SP1.  He explained if I did not have SP1 on my computer & just LABVIEW 2009 then it would probably work.  He stated that he has seen this before & had escalated this issue to the software developers?  However, he has yet to receive any feedback on the issue.

So my FPGA module is now reactivated.  However, this has brought something else to my attention of which you might explain to me.  NI sends me an email indicating that my FPGA module is now activated, but also in that email is a list of other products I am apparently entitled to on my license.  For example, I am entitled to DATAFINDER 11.0.  I go to my LICENSE MGR & activate DATAFINDER within my LABVIEW 2009 SP1 TOOLKIT subdirectory.  I get an activation code, but it is for DATAFINDER 9.0.1.  I look elsewhere in my LICENSE MGR to see if I can locate another DATAFINDER TOOLKIT & do not see it.  Does this mean I do not have DATAFINDER 11.0 installed?

My impression was that if an activation code is generated via the website it pertains to software it recognizes from the LICENSE MGR info sent from my computer.  Moreover, the LICENSE MGR displays all of the software that is installed on the computer which would geve me the impression that DATAFINDER 11.0 should be on the computer.  Nonetheless, I do not seem to find it.

Sorrry for this lengthy correspondence, but this licensing/activation procedure has really perplexed me.  I have 3 differnt licenses & presumably all 3 have different features of which I am not entirely sure.  How do I go about obtaining exactly what each license entitles me to & the activation codes included?  Right now I have these licenses on different computers, but I do not know of all of their features & what is versus what is not activated.  As it stands right now the ACTIVATION WIZARD accepts only 1 computer ID along with 1 serial # which pertains to the platform I am working from.  Can I from a separate computer obtain info on the products associated with a particular license & computer + the authentication codes so that I can store them in a centralized location for reference & documentation security?

I hope you can assist me on these issues, THANKS

In addition to this posting I found another peculiarity in the ACTIVATION WIZARD.  When you select a particular produce, for example DATAFINDER TOOLKIT, it displays the license serial # under which it was presumably activated.  For the sake of understanding the issues in question I right clicked the GREEN box & it said ACTIVATE even though the box is GREEN.  I proceeded forward & typed in another serial # on one of my other licenses.  The website generated an ACTIVATION #, but it was the same as the one for the other license.  I cancelled the activation since it was already activated, but when I returned to the LICENSE MGR display the license serial # had changed despite not following through with another activation.

So I am interested in knowing what OVERLAP I have between my 3 licenses & to make sure I am not paying for the same product more than once.  Is the activation code the same for a particular computer even though the license serial # changes or is the activation code for a particular product UNIVERSAL?

These ??'s may seem silly, but I have been using LABVIEW for a number of years now & this ACTIVATION process has always seemed far too complex & labor intensive + given my new ??'s I am even more perplexed.

REGARDS

Hello tsunami,

The best way to find out what products are associated with a serial number is to call our support line and speak with your representative.

If you have License Manager open and you see a full green box to the left of a product, this indicates it has already been successfully activated and no further activation is required for that product.
