Trouble with StateChart Examples

Much appreciated Nick.

One thing I've noticed that may be of some use; twice now when I've started LabVIEW up in the morning, I've been greeted with the “Investigate Internal Error” dialog.  Although as far as I know, LabVIEW has never “crashed” on this machine.

I’ll include the two Failure Logs here, as they may be of some use.

Thanks... I'm not sure if the failure logs are related, but the more info the better.

Hi Patrick,

We've been a bit busy but have finally found some more time to look into your issue.

I mentioned we were able to recreate the problem; the way we did this was pretty artificial though, so we are still trying to understand how you were able to get into this state.

Can you think of anything that might possibly be unusual or different from most users about the way you edit your statecharts? If you would be comfortable posting it, your LabVIEW.ini file (generally at C:\Program Files\National Instruments\LabVIEW 8.5\LabVIEW.ini) might prove helpful.

Or if you would rather send it privately or discuss any of this in private, let me know, and we can have you contact our support team so that we can exchange email addresses (without having to post them here on the forum).

What is happening is somehow some of your statechart state nodes are getting into a funny state where they are constantly trying to resize hidden parts anytime you do anything. We'd like to understand how you get in this state so we can identify how to avoid it.

In the meantime, if you delete the state that is in a funny state, things seem to resume normalcy. It isn't readily apparent to the user which state is messed up, but when we debug what is going on we can identify them. For example, in your vending machine example, if you delete the "Cool" state, the constant movement of nodes to the left seems to stop.

Thanks,
Nick

Hi again Nick,

Thanks for getting back to me on this one.  I did have to bail on using the statechart tool for my current project becuase there just wasn't time on this one to deal with any unknowns.  However I've got a few projects already lined up for this summer.  I'm still interested in trying to work statecharts in there somewhere.

I've included my .ini file with this post.   There's nothing in there I'm concerned with keeping private.

I can't think of anything particularly unusual I did when I was working on that code.  Other than turning off autogrow on all the objects in the statechart diagram.  Although I couldn't really tell if unchecking autogrow really made a difference or not.

Thanks for keeping me in the loop.  When I get a chance I'll try deleting and re-creating the "Cool" loops and see what that does for me.

Have a good weekend.
