Trouble with formatting a PXI

Solved!
Go to solution

I am trying to format a real-time PXI target (PXI-8106). It's running LabVIEW RT OS. I normally follow this way:

http://digital.ni.com/public.nsf/allkb/A47CB1C917D1D1EC8625781B00722F99

It has worked fine before but this time, when I tried to reboot the PXI in safe mode, I got the following message:

"Transferring control to user program.

Unable to configure the primary network device.

System state: Safe Mode (User Directed)"

Then MAX cannot see the target. The only thing I touched was the Boot Configuration under PheonixBIOS Setup Utility. It is currently set as the following:

Boot Configuration: [LabVIEW RT Safe Mode]

Reset IP Address: [Use Hardware Switch]

Disable Startup VI: [USe Hardware Switch]

Current Hardware Switch Settings

Boot Configuration: LabVIEW RT

Reset IP Address: No

Disable Startup VI: No

Hi MemoryGrowth,

I hear that you’re working with Chris in our Applications Engineering department regarding this issue. In addition to the troubleshooting steps he recommended, I would also be curious to see how the controller behaves if you try to boot the back into the Real-Time OS (not Safe Mode). Does the device reappear in MAX, or do you still see the same message?

If you continue to experience this issue, you could attempt to reformat the controller using a USB Utility Drive, which can be created in MAX. The steps for completing this procedure are outlined in the document linked below.

I hope these steps set you on your way to successfully reformatting your PXI controller. Going forward, Chris will be your main point of contact on this issue, but if you have any questions or comments you’d like to address directly to me or the community, you can certainly continue to use this forum. I will be working to Chris to make sure your issue is resolved, so any info you send to him will be passed along to me.

Best regards,

Tim
