Hi Dennis Knutson,

I have changed to the picture that you have posted just now...Do you mind helping me to check whether did I do it correctly?

Please advice

Thanks

Do expect that the correct device is going to automatically respond with the message string "Com4" once you open a connection to it?

It doesn't seem to me that you are really trying to learn anything here.  It is like you are expecting others to hand hold you through your entire exercise.  "I just made this change, can you tell me if I'm right?"  A number of your "please checks" up until now were obviously wrong because you had a broken run arrow.  At least this one does not have a broken run arrow.

If you really want to know if it is correct, try running it!

Hi Ravens Fan,

I think you might misunderstand about what is my intention...I just would like to confirm with Dennis Knutson whether what he thinks and my thinking matches or not only...I am really willing to learn

Thanks

Well, what you drew exactly matches what he drew.  However the "something you expect" condition he put in, you filled with "Com4".  Do you really expect your instrument to respond back with the string "com4"?

To ask again an earlier question, why are you going through the whole process of scanning for all of your VISA resources?  Why don't you just put a VISA control on the front panel and let the user chosse the correct Com port from the drop down?

If you want to know if your VI works or not, then try running it rather than asking about it.

Ravens Fan, hats off for your patience. I lost it after reading the thread for the first time and at that time it was just 2 pages long.

Do you expect the device to return the literal string "something you expect"?

Take a step back to square one.  What exactly are you trying to do here?  What are the instructions you were given for this exercise?

Detect what with the com port?  Are you just trying to detect whether a com port exists?  Or trying to detect that a specific device is connected to a com port?

What is connected to that COM port?

What do you think your instrumment is returning on the COM port?
