Upgrade to 8.5 issues

Once again I am very upset about the being forced to upgrade to fix bugs. This forcing has caused MANY aggravations.

1)      all my constructed palettes were reset

2)      all my setup options were lost

3)      shared files can no longer be used by older versions of LabView

I also run Labview on many machines therefore my aggravations are multiplied by each machine I have to update my favorite settings.

Having aired that out, I have real problems.

1)      Editing the tools palette causing LabView to hang

2)      The main tools palette magically disappears while editing it.

3)      My previous versions of traditional DAQ vi’s disappeared and older Vi’s using the traditional DAQ can no longer be developed unless I convert them to 8.5.

4)      Running 8.5 has destroyed my ability to work with older drivers (5.1) provided by other vendors.

5)      I can not seem to load certain toolkits such as MSWord, MSExcel, VI analyzer (the only ones I have discovered for know) I do have the Developers Suite

This could not have come at a worse time since I have 3 deadlines I am trying to meet. The one good side is the upgrade resolved the PID bug. Can anyone help me with my real problems? Though they are not show stoppers, but they need resolving.

I was running 8.2.1 with absolutely no issues until the PID tool kit I needed came with a bug. The upgrade to 8.5 fixed that but created more.  Jeff

PS I do not have time to waste two more hours per machine to reload

Hi,
It sounds like a few of your questions can be answered by reading the LabVIEW 8.5 upgrade issues which can be found here.  I would like to know more about the problems you are experiencing when you try to edit your tools palettes.  If  you could elaborate on these it would be helpful.  The upgrade notes should answer your questions regarding toolkits, drivers and VI's on your palettes.  If your toolkits are not installed correctly then they will probably not show up on your palette in LabVIEW 8.5.

Thanks for the reply -

As for the Toolkits, it is fairly straight-forward - put the check in the box if you want it loaded. Our IT dept took screen shots of step to very proper installation. According to the screen shots, they have been loaded but are not part of my tools palette. I also discovered my Advanced Math toolset(Name may be wrong) is also missing - on two installs so far. I would say the only toolset i have found so far, thankfully, is the PID toolset.

As for the editing the tools palette lockup - the Edit Controls and Functions Palette Set window disappears leaving me with just the two controls and functions palettes. I can not close either of these windows therefore I must use the Windows Task Manager to close Labview so I can re-open it do more work. I have since stopped trying to edit the palettes. This is bothersome since I have many Vi's that I have created that help complete some of the tool palette functionality I enjoy.

Hi,
Did you reinstall your toolkits after you upgraded LabVIEW?  Perhaps we can find out why your toolkits aren't showing up if you could tell us the order that you installed everything.

They were installed in the order they were found in the book that they come in. (The Development Suite comes in a hard-cover folder.) I have not tried to reinstall the toolset again. I will contact IT to have them try it on one of the PCs.

I believe I have found my dissappearing tools palette issue. It takes over 15 seconds for the editing Tools Palette windows to appear so I was continuing my work while I was waiting. Obviously Labview doesn't like this. Recommendation - when editing the Tools Palette, do nothing and wait. This will ensure the main palette editing window will not magically disappear.
