Use RS232 port of cRIO as an output

Solved!
Go to solution

Hi,

I work on a cRIO-9002 with a NI9215 AI module. I send order to the cRIO by an ethernet wire and I read signals from external devices with the AI module.
My question is about RS232 port on cRIO, I would know if I can use it to send data from FPGA to PC ? And if I can, how ?

A quick answer will be great, just to drive me on the right road.

Thanks.

Maxime

The drivers are installed on the crio by default. Use the visa serial vis to access it. It is com1. You cannot access it direct from the fpga. Im not sure why you want to do this. It seems the network connection could be used. Give more information if this does not help.

My ends are :

1. to use RS232 as an output because I only get an Analog Input Module

2. to check if cRIO can run stand-alone by monitoring data flow on the RS232

3. to send data by RS232 port to an external system storage

Thanks for answered so quickly.

That should be no problem for you. I would normally use tcp to do comms but of course serial is possible.
