VI Logger error: Database does not exist in the specified path

Garrett,

Thanks for the message.  I will go do the MAX comparison right now.  For the others,

= I do not know where is Historical Data > Citadel 5 Universe
= I do not know how to detach or reattach a database.  Where is "the database" in MAX that I can click on ?

Thanks,

Garrett,

I wonder if I'm missing something really elementary...  I'm not finding the MAX entries you're telling me to look for.
--------------------------------------------------
(As I mentioned in an earlier message)

[1] I do not show an option "Tools > VI Logger > Manage Database..."  Under Tools > VI Logger my options are:

=  Import VI Logger 1.x Task
=  Configure Data Export Settings ...
=  Activate All VI Logger Features

Under Configure... there is a textbox labeled "Output folder" which contains

"C:\Documents and Settings\[my username]\My Documents\VI Logger Data"

--------------------------------------------------
While in the registry we have...

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > SOFTWARE > National Instruments > VI Logger > Export Settings
Data Storage Path
    C:\Program Files\National Instruments\VI Logger\data\
Default Database
    \\localhost\VI Logger Data

I got this localhost thing from an earlier post in this thread.  I have no idea how to find the database in my MAX installation.

Regards,

Hey Rajeev,

I apologize... the tools I told you to look for in MAX do not exist with the Lite Edition of VI Logger. I have a couple more things we can try, but first another question: Did VI Logger ever work on this computer? If so, do you have any VI Logger Tasks that still exist in MAX from when the program worked? Let me know and then I'll suggest one more course of action.

No never tried VI Logger in the past, and have had no success with it now.

Rajeev,

Unfortunately VI Logger Lite edition gives very limited access to database configuration. My suggestion is to install the evaluation version of Lookout software. This program runs a utility that cleans up and reinitializes the Citadel database during installation. Simply installing this application could correct this database issue. I think it's definetely worth trying. You could obviously remove the software once installed.

Garrett,

I tried it.  No success.  Tasks broken as before (btw testing Tasks works fine which it did before, problem is with Run).  During Lookout install I got an message saying installer wouldn't install MAX 4.0 since newer version already exists.

What next ?

Rajeev,

Unfortunately, it looks like you're going to need to wipe all National Instruments software and registry entries from your computer and start anew. An applications engineer can take you through this process. Follow this link and create a new service request. NI Support will take you the rest of the way. Again, thanks for being willing to try all my suggestions.

I had the same problem with VI Logger Lite on my brand new PXI system. I think it is because NI set up the PXI system with a standard disk image. Reinstalling DAQmx was ineffective. The fix posted earlier (moving the "VI Logger" folder, renaming computer, reattach database, edit the Windows registry ...) also didn't work. In my case VI Logger Lite had never been able to record any data.

So in desperation (I had to set up the system to do some simple data recording really quick, and I am extremely rusty with LabVIEW after haven't touched it for almost 10 years), and after I had severely messed up the installed NI drivers/software due to the numerous driver removal and re-installation, I proceeded to wipe out all installed NI software, delete all Windows registry entries for VI Logger, reinstalled DAQmx and LabVIEW. Everything seems to be working now.

So much for a preconfigured system. My system h/w configuration is as follows:

Original system:
  PXI-3011 chassis
  PXI-8105 controller
  PXI-5105 digitizer

Later added: PXI-6229 multifunction DAQ card

Please help fix "Database does not exist in the specified path" error in VI Logger!

I have read through the preceeding discussions but have not found enough to help yet.

When I run a VI task , the following message from Task Validation shows up:

"Database does not exist in the specified path."

I have reinstalled the software without any resolution of the problem.  I am running the most recent versions of NiDAQMX and Vilogger (free version).

The preceeding discussion mentioned menu items that do not show up, so I can't use these methods to solve the problem.  What is the next step?

"Historical Data" does not exist in the MAX tree view.
in MAX the menu item "Tools->VI Logger->Manage Database" does not exist.

Thanks for the help,
KE

Hi Minster, Did you try Garret's recommendation to use the evaluation version of Lookout to reconnect the Citadel database? This KB explains how to reconnect the database after installing Lookout. If you have the newest version of DAQmx, then you have already installed SignalExpress, which serves as a replacement for VI Logger. (You will notice that VI Logger is no longer included with DAQmx.) I suggest that you try SignalExpress, as it is very intuitive and adds a lot of functionality.
