VISA driver conflict

Solved!
Go to solution

I am having a VISA driver conflict with Agilents Logic Analyzer "ALA COM" driver set and LabVIEW, possibly MAX, and not LabVIEW itself.

When I install the ALA COM drivers (version 03.82.0002) I am no longer able to communicate via VISA to any instrumentation. I am using LabVIEW 8.6, but I also tried it with version 8.5.1, then 8.6.1. If I uninstall the Agilent drivers I am able to communication via VISA again.

The representative for Agilent stated that he was not seeing the same problem with version 8.5 of LabVIEW, so I think it may be related to MAX. I am currently trying to figure out if he is using a different MAX version, then my next step will be to try uninstalling my version of MAX and install that version.

In the mean time is there anyone that has dealt with this that may have some more helpful hints?

Hi,

What version of NI-VISA are you using? I think the conflicts would be limited to the way VISA interacts with the Agilent driver and not a MAX or LabVIEW conflict. If you can, I would recommend upgrading your VISA version as a first step.

I am using VISA version 4.5, which I beleive is the latest.

I tried uninstalling 4.5 and reverting VISA and MAX to an earlier version, but apparently MAX does not have a stand alone install, and they make it pretty much impossible to do that.

Hi,

NI-VISA will install/upgrade MAX, so if you uninstalled both and installed an older version of NI-VISA it will install an older version of MAX. What version of VISA was the person from Agilent using? Also, what hardware are you trying to use? And, where can I find this ALA COM driver set, I was unable to find it on Agilent’s site.

I upgraded the 488.2 driver set; it came with MAX 4.6 which resolved the conflict.
