Welcome to the New NI Discussion Forums!

Hi Molly,

Re:Catagories

I think that users that have reached the Active (open for discusion) level or above should be given the ability t assign catagories to questions.

In the old forum, newbies would not have clue where to post the Q. In the long run, they all ended up in LV General because that's were all the activity was.

I think the Active (?) users could assign these more appropraitely because they should be familiar with the Exchange's organization.

How do others feel about this?

This is something we would like to be able to provide to our more active community members. Two of the challenges we face are that subscriptions to threads are broken when threads are recategorized and the synch to the NNTP newsgroups is broken as well.

We would like to be able to provide this functionality and we will try to resolve some of the technical issues preventing it from being possible today.

Thanks for the feedback!

We do plan to consider migrating the existing Topic content and we will be introducing some new Topics and Polls in the near future. Stay tuned...

How about implementing as a variation on the rating system.

Users could search on the catagory like they search on the rating.

No need to average.

Just trying to help,

I am curious...

I tried the "Search" feature.. to find a question to which I had already provided an answer.
The search could not find the post.

What is the success rate of people using the search feature?
Am I suddently doing the search "wrong"??

interesting observation...

.... hummm...

So my question is: Has anyone else recently used the search engine? How successful was it? Does it "feel" different to the previous version?

Can you be more specific about what you were searching for and what you tried to do to find it? I would like to investigate to be sure that the system is indexing the content correctly.

Have you seen this thread that talks about how to use the Advanced Message Search options to include/exclude words and phrases?

http://forums.ni.com/ni/board/message?board.id=130&message.id=260#M260

One other tip: If you are searching from the main page (search box at the top of the page), results from all boards will be returned. If you are searching from a board page (search box at the bottom of the page), results from within that board will be returned.

Thanks!

Thank you Molly.

Now this is interesting...

I entered "34970A" (without quotes) in the search engine at the bottom of the page. Pressed "GO". It returned nothing. I did an "advanced Search" using the exact same text. Over 10 pages came up.

I entered the same text in the regular search engine and pressed "GO". The same results showed up as doing the advanced search.

Other searches now work using the regular search button 😄
(I can already hear the guys laughing...)

I'll blame it on my lack of caffeine... 😮

*** now I wish I could remove my previous post... *** 😮

You are correct that the migrated ratings were scaled to the new 5-star system and that you will find "impossible" rating averages such as "1 rating - 3.7 average."

Thanks!
