A few months ago we completely revamped the LabVIEW Tools Network. We wanted to create a place where users can find and download LabVIEW add-ons from both NI and third-parties. It's a new venture for us and we are learning a lot along the way. So what are your thoughts?
Do you use the Tools Network?
Had you even heard of it before this post? 🙂
What could we do to improve it?
How often do you use add-ons?
I'm interested in your feedback if you're an add-on user or an add-on developer.
Thanks!

I've never heard of it before and since that link is broken I still don't believe it's real.

It sure is broken! And unfortunately I can't edit the original, so here's a working link...

I do like the idea of this tools network but I have one problem with it. The reliance on VIPM. Yes I know there is a free version but my main development computer is not on a network and has no internet connectivity. In the FAQs for openg on how to load packages onto a non-networked computer states "
Yes! The easiest way to do this is to use a networked computer to download the OpenG packages using VIPM and then use VIPM Professional to create a VI Package Configuration with the packages that you want to install on the non-networked machine. Here are the steps:".
VIPM Pro costs $999.

Thanks for your feedback! Currently the Tools Network features add-ons that use both installers and packages. We see the package format as tremendously useful for LV users. But you're absolutely right, packages are tough to use on offline development machines. Right now, your best option to get packaged Tools Network content is to install VIPM Community on your development machine, and then email our team at labviewpartnerprogram at ni dot com.

Wow, very nice! I knew there was a lot of free-lance toolkits on the market but I missed some of those. Can I borrow some money???

I'm glad you like it! I might not be able to float you a loan, but I can offer you some free toolkits

You can also transfer the packages manually and install them with doubleclicking (when VIMP is installed).

Hi Chris,
For me the tools Network is great. I have been using the OpenG VIs for years. And since other tools are available with VIPM I use some of them too. I hope to be able to create packages myself soon. But I did not succeed till now, even for simple ones. (See VIPM bug list.)
The package format with dependencies and installation to the right place is a great thing. (I would like to have (automatic) dependencies on packages or installations in a project. And in an installer in windows too. Maybe with automatic download as proposed here.)
Greetings,
shb

Actually, I wanted the money to take a long, relaxing tropical vacation. But... I guess this will have to do. Thanks!
