What is the little square?

I have a new installation of LV on a Dell Precision 370 Workstation configured as follows:  2.8 Ghz p4, 1 g ram, 2 SATA HD, PCI express NVidia dual head video card, dual LCD displays, and a PCI-6071E DAS card.  Whenever LV is running, a little square, about 2/3s the size of the minimize button floats on the number 1 display.  It can not be moved, does not respond to double clicks, however, it can be grabbed and an outline dragged.   The outline vanishes when released.  It does not seem to interfere with any applications, including LV.   The center of the square momentarily changes to a blueish shade of color when DAQ Assistant property box is clicked OK, whether modified or not.  The only time it disappears is with another application running on top of it or LV is shut down.

I was having a problem with the DAQ Assistant locking the system; installing the 7.1.1 Update seems to have cured the locking problem, but not the little square.

Has anybody seen this?  I can email an image of the little creature, should anybody need to see it.

Thanks for looking into this,

Hi,

Hmmm... can you post a screenshot of this?

Do you see it when no VIs are open (just LabVIEW running)?  You can try running the 'Application:All VIs In Memory' property node from a fresh VI and see what it lists.

Unfortunately, the image needs to be host on a server so it can be linked with it's URL.  I can email it to you.

No it doesn't. Take a screen shot and save it as a jpg or png file. Then you can just attach the file.

I have the same thing on my precision 360. It is right in the middle of my screen and annoys me. Has anyone ever figured out what this is? It comes up anytime LabVIEW or the LabVIEW Runtime Engine is loaded.

That's it!  It is nice to know i am not unique.  This also occurs with installations of 8.0 and 8.20; not a bit of difference in screen behavior.

I've got another system with four panels arranged 1 on top and 3 below; this is a custom system, non Dell, dual xeons on a supermicro board with lots of ram, HD, and four head display card.  It does not display the curious little square...

maybe it is a Dellish thing...

Look to me like a front panel with size 0,0.

Could you poll VI-server and ask for open VI's and their size? I have no idea how these pop-up but maybe the getting started window is hijacked?
