What makes a cluster unresizable?

Solved!
Go to solution

Win Vista, LabVIEW 8.6.1

The cluster in the attached file has been around for years. I started this project in 7.0, it's been thru 7.1, 8.0,8.2 and now 8.6.

It's been unchanged thru all that, but now I need to edit it.

Why can't I change the cluster size?

When I try, there are no "handles" appearing on the cluster border.

If I use the resize toolbar, it tells me that "You cannot resize this item in this dimension" for both dimensions.  It's not smart enough to tell me WHY.

I can turn on autosizing and the size will adjust itself to accommodate.  If I turn autosizing OFF, then it's back to where I can't do anything.

I need to add hidden items, which means that I can't do my usual trick of tucking them under the edges of the cluster.

It gives me no clue as to a reason.

Any ideas?

The file you seem to have intended to attach is missing.

I have had this happen a lot. Not just in upgrading but for resizing things in LV. What works most of the time for is to select the object by using the selection box and not just by clicking. What I mean by using a selection box is to click and hold the mouse button down and then move the mouse and you will see the selection box. then make sure the selection box only selects the part that you want to change.

Hope this helps you out.

I see - attaching a CTL file causes an UNEXPECTED ERROR in the posting software, continuing forgets the attachment.

Try again:

Locked?

No, it's not locked.  At one time it was part of a front panel that was locked, but I decided that locking was a useless waste of time and undid it.

I thought of that but it doesn't help.

FWIW, on the CONTROL EDITOR page, I can create a new cluster, and move everything from the old one into it, and it all works like I'd expect.

Yes, something seems messed up or corrupt. You could set to to "size to fit" and then move the contents around until you like the size. 😉

Still, you should probably re-create it with a new contailer. 😉

You could set to to "size to fit" and then move the contents around until you like the size.

But that doesn't work for my intended purpose, which was to add a couple of visible items, and some hidden ones.

I normally would stretch out the cluster border, add the hidden items, and shrink the border to cover them up.

I have already re-created a new cluster and moved all the items into it.  The old one was still gorched, even when empty.
