Where can I find version information for DataSocket?

Where can I find version information for DataSocket?

It use to be if you installed software there would be a small "readme.txt" file, or html, or even a page in the chm help file that would describe the fixes, improvements, and changes in the different versions of software.

In general I have this problem with all National Instrument software.

In this particular case I need to know the difference between two different versions of DataSocket.

I also don't understand why the "About DataSocket Server,," shows the Measurement Studio branding. Is DataSocket Server a part of Measurement Studio? I'm only using it with LabVIEW? Is the version number the version of DataSocket server or the version of Measurement Studio?

Anyways,

Where can I find the difference information  between these two server installs?

Regards,

MrQuestion,

Can I ask why you need the version differences? Are you running into some error with functionality?

Unfortunately I cannot find all that much information on DataSocket; I have compiled what I have found so far below:

I work in a regulated industry where every install is monitored by a third person literally hovering over your back taking notes.  Every piece of software must be accounted, and must have a reason why it is there.

Our quality team discovered this difference in version. We can not tell any difference in performance or behaviour. It's possible that this has been around for years and nobody noticed.

I need to create a waiver for this issue and as a result I need to know the difference in version information to waive the insignificance of this. The fact that it behaves identical is not good enough.

Otherwise this will be expensive to audit all of our machines and our process to figure out what happened in our procedures, and reinstall all of the software.

Hi MrQuestion,

NI Datasocket will install with LabVIEW run-time as described here. So if you have the same version of LabVIEW run-time, you should have the same version of NI Datasocket.

Also, you may find this article helpful as it contains the file path for the Datasocket Help (.chm file).
