Any DAQmx should work, I use the latest with LV7.1. You can download it from ni.com or use the CDs supplied with your hardware.

The mistake you made was to copy the missing VIs. You need to run the DAQmx installer instead (after installing LV, so it can detect which LV versions to support).

DAQmx 8.8 supports LabVIEW 8.2.1 and LabVIEW 8.6 as you can see in the readme file at the download page. Any of the newer versions are compatible.

Error 11 just does not sound right and if you had to paste a function into your VI, that sounds like you did not install DAQmx correctly. You must install the driver after you install LabVIEW.

I'm a little confused here. Which version of LabVIEW are you talking about? 7, 8.2.1, or 8.6? You say your current version is 8.6, but you have the CDs for 7. Where are your CDs for 8.6? The CDs should have included Device Drivers on other CDs. DAQmx would have been on those discs.

Like Felix says, you need to install DAQmx rather than copying the files to your system. Search for "DAQmx" on ni/com/downloads. Version 8.8 should work fine with LabVIEW 8.2.1.
