Which version of LabVIEW do I need to buy that will support controlling hardware (i.e. CHI instruments and motors)?

Hello,

I want to buy a LabVIEW license and was looking at the basic package but am not sure if it will work for our needs. I want to make sure it has all the functionality we would need.  I want it to be able to use  libec SDK that lets you control CHI instruments (potentiostats) and other hardware such as motors from ThorLabs (http://www.chinstruments.com/libec_alpha.shtml).

Thanks!

All licenses should have very similar hardware functionality. All versions can call DLLs and .NET assemblies. Whether or not it is easy to integrate your hardware into a LabVIEW program largely depends on the support that the hardware vendor gives to you. If you want to deploy code to real time systems or FPGAs then it look like you want at least the full version (plus the corresponding add-on), but it does not look like you want that.

If you need extra mathematic or signal processing capabilities, look at the more expensive versions. Also, if you want to build an executable, then you need the professional version or the app builder add on. If you do not build an executable, then you will need LabVIEW installed on the machine that you intend to run your code on, which may not be a problem if you're in a laboratory environment. If you are working in production, you definitely want to run executables so the test operator cannot accidentally alter the code.
