Why LabVIEW 7 crashes 5 times more often that 6.1

Very often, when I do something or too fast or Windows has something to do, or I do something, which is not listed in LV manual, my LV 7 crashes.
Is there any service pack to LV7.
Thanks in advance

Hi Pawel,

There are no service packs that I know of for LV7.

I did have many problems initially when I first installed LV7, including a similar behavior to what you are describing.

I first thought it was because of Win-XP Pro (which is still a pain...), which was installed on a Dell Dimension 2350.

I switched PC to a clone and LV is a lot more stable. I can't remember LV6.1 crashing, but I do remember that it was solid. Win-XP is still causing me some incompatibility issues...

I'm happy with LV7 and I do like some of the new features.

Below is a link to comments on LV7.

What PC are you using and wh
at OS are you running? Is the platform the same as LV6.1? I'd be interested in finding out more info on problems and solutions relating to machines, OS and LV versions. A neat project would be to compile the data in the form of a table.. We'd select the best match ;o)

I do recall having a problem on the new machine. It was solved (or it dissappeared) when I re-installed everything (Win-XP and LV7).

good luck,

Since LabVIEW is a graphically intensive program you might want to check that you have the latest drivers for your video card. I have had continuous screen lockup and LabVIEW crash problems solved by doing so.

Gluck!

Hello Joe

I am also using Dell, but Dimension 8100.
With previous LV6.1 sometimes when too much vi I had opened and I did something particularly mean, like having a lot of things in clipboard, which have just been cut from another vi and paste to another one, when the same controls have been already present. Those kind of stuff. But it was mostly stable, as you said. That is the reason why I have noticed it so obviously, when I moved to LV7.

From what I can say, LV7 is the most unstable, when it comes to the user dynamic events. I have seen it, almost as a pattern, that when I have my user even already defined in the event structure and the event is defined previously with a "Create user Event", then when I want to change a label of my event, LV crashe
s.
The solusion to the problem was to delete the event selector in event structure, change the label of my even (in/close to, "create event") and make the selector event again. Otherwise the whole vi was inaccessible :(.

Otherwise, LV& is not so bad.
I have W2k prof.

regards
Pawel

That's true! I myself use only LabVIEW 6.1 version through I also have lisence for LabVIEW 7.0 and LabVIEW 7.1 version. I think LabVIEW 7 is good for beginners but LabVIEW 7 isn't just stable enough with critical programing and test solutions. I am also tired to fight with new LabVIEW bugs.

I can not agree with this. While LabVIEW 6.1 was definitely a stable
product LabVIEW 7.0 has been at least as stable on my computer until
now. Even the LabVIEW 7.0 Beta was already stable to an extend which
would have served some older released LabVIEW versions very well.

Sorry but I'm just tring to be honest and impartial with my answer! I have also used alot LabVIEW 7 and LabVIEW 7.1. I also know that you as a NI application engineer only try to recommend the new LabVIEW version was it in practical better or not.

Hi Kimmo,

I would like clarify a misconception.

"I also know that you as a NI application engineer..."

Years ago Rolf was indeed with NI. He has not worked for NI for years.

Many of the Enthusiast on this excahange are NOT employed by NI. They a volunteers who willing share their time and knowledge with the world (for mostly altruistic reasons, I would suspect).

I believe Rolf was "just tring to be honest and impartial with [his] answer!"

I have never heard Rolf mince words and their are few people who will speak as honsetly as Rolf when it comes the LV.

I never heard him try to sell anything LV related. I have never him try to sell his own products either.

I have been an Application Engineer for NI Switzerland between 1992 and
1996 (and as such have worked with LabVIEW since version 2.2 all the
time). Since 1997 I'm working for a system integrator called CIT
Engineering in the Netherlands, which happens to be an NI Alliance
Partner but that is about as far as it goes in terms of NI ties.

As to my honesty about how stable LabVIEW 7.0 is, I believe to be as
honest with it as anyone could possibly be able to be.
