Why SCXI cannot be controlled by RT?

Hello,

I am planning to use a SCXI-1503 card and want to control it from e.g. a PCI-6220 card running under RT (ETS) on PCi box.

However, as can be seen from the linkts to the data below, the SCXI-1503 OS supports is listed as only Windows.

I do not understand why? Surely SCXI cards are not directly controlled installed and controlled directly by Windows, but via a DAQ card?

If I run the DAQ card under RT and connect it to a SCXI card installed in an SCXI box, the SCXI card should be unaware of what OS is running the DAQ card?

I appreciate help here, I am pressed to make some decisions on equipment and cannot find the answer to this ....Smiley Sad

For data on SCXI1503 see: (OS support is listed as Windows only. Why ??)

For data on PCI-6220 see:  (OS support is listed as Windows, RT: I will run it under RT)

Hello Geir,

Thank you for your forum post. Question is if the driver supports your hardware under real-time operating system. Please find a SCXI driver list under the following link; http://zone.ni.com/devzone/cda/tut/p/id/6914

With this in mind, the SCXI1503 can be used in a real-time envirorment.

Please let me know if there are any other questions,

Best regards,

Martijn

Hello,

Thanks a lot for your quick answer! I think I got it (correct me if I am wrong): The DAQmx card must support RT, but needs a driver, that also must run under RT, to control the SCXI card from RT!

May I suggest that this fact & driver list is placed where it is easier to find? (for other customers, and myself again when / if I forget this 🙂 )
