Why do I receive Error 8 when Calling by Reference Node?

I have a VI that uses "Calling by Reference Node" to open other VIs. For certain VIs, an error 8 is returned when they are opened. For other VIs, there is no error. I've checked my permissions and all of the VIs have read/write access. Is there something obvious I'm missing?

Sorry for the addendum, but I forgot to mention that the called VIs execute properly despite the Error 8.

I opened the VI but if you run it with the defaults you just get an error -1 that looks like you defined. What should you put as inputs in order to receive the error 8?
