Windows 7 with Labview 2009 cannot link to NI WAP-3711?

I will describe roughly , you can find my two problems details  in the attached video.

Preparation

I had a new laptop with Windows 7 32bit Professional and I updated all the updates to today. It is a clean system.

I installed only Labview 2009 with all the patches I found in the NI website
(LVRTf2Patch,Labview_f3_DevAndRTEPatch,NIRIO34,VASMarch2010,VDN2009,NISoftMotionModule2009f1)

Problem1:
When I linked to NI WAP-3711, it cannot link stable. I opened the Measurement and Automation Explorer, it can find my cRIO and CVS. However, when I try to install software to it, it lost links. I tried several times, it is the same as my another laptop with another brand of wireless card.

Problem2:
I followed the NI WAP-3701/3711 Quick Installation Guide (First Edition,Sept 2007)
Link my laptop to the NI WAP-3711 with a cable, and config my computer IP address as 192.168.127.22. I cannot open Web-based configure manager of NI WAP-3711.  I tried to ping 192.168.127.253, it cannot connected.

Andrew

Hi conroe2008,

Have you ever used this WAP before? Do you know if it still has its default IP address or if it has been changed in the past? Do you have any firewall or virus protection software that could be interfering or blocking any ports? In your post, you specifically call out Windows 7, do you other computers with different operating system that work with this WAP?

Hi Aaron,

Yes,this WAP worked with Windows XP SP1 32 bit and Windows Vista HomeBasic 32 SP1 in the desktop.

Recently, we try to move the develop platform to a laptop.

The laptop come with a Windows 7 Professional 32 bit, the problem happened.

I have alreday shutdown the firewall or virus software(Uninstalled).

The problem happenened with this laptop and my own laptop which have a different brand of wireless card. But they all have Windows 7.

I don't know whether somebody had changed the settings, I will try today to reset it and find more.

Andrew

Hi Andrew,

You mention that this WAP worked with Windows XP and Vista, but do they currently work with the WAP? Do any computers (non-Windows 7) work with this WAP at this point? Have tried resetting it to its default settings?

Hi Aaron,

Thank you for your attention.

Yes, the WAP worked with XP properly. The workstation based on the XP SP1+ Labview 8.5 on a desktop worked well with the WAP, and I tried another Vista-PC, it also worked well.(This Vista PC can install Labview 2009 to find the drivers of my cRIO and CVS.While Labview 8.5 can not.)

While the new laptop come with Windows 7 does not work. It is the same as the Vista PC that can not find the drivers of my cRIO and CVS. So I tried Labview 2009, it can find my cRIO and CVS, however, the link is not stable as I shown in my record video.

Specially in Windows 7, when link connected, it showed limited linked.

I tried to reset, and it seems the same, still not work. God! Help me!

The NI-WAP 3711 is a 2007 product , while Windows 7 is a 2009 product. There might be something incompatible.I assume that there might be the firmware problem with this WAP, I had experienced the similar things with my home TP-link router. When I first got the Windows 7 installed in my home, it can not link to the TP-link router, after I updated the firmware, it works well. However, I can not find the new firmware anywhere.

Andrew

Hi Arron,

I am having exactly the same problem as you.

I have a laptop with windows 7 and labview 10. It cannot connect to our WAP-3711.

I also have another laptop running windows xp and labview 10. This machine can connect to the WP-3711 ok.

We are running 2 of WP-3711 as a wireless bridge.

Did you find a solution to this problem?

kind regards

Frank

Hi Frank,

Andrew seems to have abandoned this thread here, so I'm not sure how he worked out this issue. Be sure to take a look at this KnowledgeBase article, which gives a pretty exhaustive rundown of configuring the WAP with your system.

Hope that helps!

Hi Frank,

I had tried to reset all the settings of NI WAP-3711, I can tell you my experience.

The trick is that you should set the wireless card and NI WAP-3711 should in the same sub net.

If the NI WAP-3711 have the address of 192.168.1.2, the wirless card in laptop should have 192.168.1.x. then it works.

Though I still do not think it is stable,(sometimes it lost links though the signal appeared is strong).

A firmware update will help while NI seems do not have one.

Hi everyone,

I should add something. I did the project of my master's course.

My supervisor still do not believe that I can connect to the NI WAP-3711 properly(Sometimes lost links).

Though I found a solution change the antenna from 3dB to 9 dB, the lost link problem improved(Almost no lost).

What my supervisor suspect is that when I use the 3dB antenna, the laptop said the signal is full(Perfect), it lost links. He does not believe that it is the antenna problem, while I can not find better solution.

Hi all...went through the knowledge base article that was suggested above. Didn't really help me.

A colleague brought in his laptop from home running win7. His is 64bit mine is 32 bit. He could not connect to the NI WAP either.

We can both connect to Dynalinx WAP's out our site.

Seems like an NI problem to me.

Can somebody fron NI just do a simple test and see if they can connect to a NI WAp with a  Win7 laptop?

I will look at Andrews suggestion for subnet.

cheers
