alarm logging with DSC on Vista

Solved!
Go to solution

Hello,

I have a seriuus probblem with the alarm logging. I am using Labview 8.6.1 with DSC module on Windows Vista.

The alarm configuration is correct. I have also leave the original path for database - C:\Program Files\National Instruments\LabVIEW 8.5\data

This folder I think is open for writing and readig the Citadel database.

When I look in this folder, the mssql.ldf and mssql.mdf are missing.

When I try to look the history of alarms in MAX, there is only an empty table. A trace view works perfect.

I have test the same project on the other computer with Windows XP. Alarm logging works ok. on this computer.

I have alco the other path for the database (E:\.....), without success.

Please advise if you have any idea what else can I try to work this out.

Thanks.

Best regards,

Zdenko.

Hi,

I am desperate.

Perhaps anyone have any idea?

Are there any user on DSC, who are successfully using event and alarm logging function on Vista?

Or should I downgrade my laptop to XP?

Hi

This seems to be a known issue. You can find some information by looking at the LV DSC readme file here.Go there to "Known issues" section and have a look at the first issue mentioned there. See if the solution works for you.

If not, please provide me with detailed information on software versions you're using - LabVIEW, DSC module (together with build versions) and Windows (32/64bit, languae, service pack, etc).

Best regards

Thank you.

I've seen this readme file. Don't work anyway.

Since this is not the only problem vith Vista, I am downgrading my laptop to XP.

O.S is Vista Home premium, labview version is 8.6.1.

But the problem with version 8.5 is the same.

Zdenko.

I'm curous what the answer to that Q is as well.

I have not confronted VISTA yet (aside from trying to get my Dad's machine onto a wireless network) but as I understand it enforces security by ensuring that files that can be run are in folders that can not be written to by apps. Thei dea being don't let viruses write themselves into folder for exe's. So data logging has to occur to another folder somewhere where VISTa will permit writting. From teh file spec you gave for your DB it looks like you data is being writein to ..../programs/...

Hi,

Alarm and event logging works perfect with the Windows XP installed on the same computer.

Hi

Good to hear that. Let us know, if you are willing to give Vista another try (maybe on another machine) or is XO fine with you and we can close this issue for now?

For now, I won't make my life miserable with Vista anymore.

XP is still the way to go.

But the issue stays the same with Vista.

I like to hear the situation with some other Vista user, if the alarm and event logging works...

Best regards,

Zdenko.
