We are using a cDAQ-9189 which has Ethernet connection to the computer. It has 8 slots, we installed some modules into it, but we have problem with the NI 9871 module which provide 4 ports for RS-485 communication, see the attached screenshot for the error message.
We also have another issue with the cDAQ, it sometimes loses connection of all the modules, then all of them has a x on them. Some unplug and refresh may fix the issue, but that should not be the way after the device is deployed.
Thanks for any suggestions.

I don't think that module will work in a dDAQ.
When I search NI.com for NI-9871, one of the results said it is for cRIO systems.
"The NI‑9871 adds RS485/RS422 serial ports to CompactRIO systems. The serial ports are accessed directly from the FPGA to offer you flexibility in communicating with serial devices. The module has individual buffers on every port that save FPGA space and simplify programming. The NI‑9871 supports standard start bit, stop bit, and handshaking settings. It uses an external power to provide maximum compatibility and reliability under all serial port conditions.

Thanks for the reply. According the the NI link below, it will only work with cRIO.

Good job finding that link!
