configuration

After starting Labview, the following error occurs:  Executable version ( 8.2.1) doesn't match resource file (5.1.1) Check your configuration.

Does anyone knows what to do here?

You probably have a corrupted installation of the run-time engine. Did you try to install 5.1 after 7.1? If so, it's not wise to install older versions after new versions. The following document may help: http://digital.ni.com/public.nsf/allkb/680E61A4D02158A186256F7A0073C228

I compiled the 5.1.1 into 8.2.1 after that the Labview application did not start anymore. I do not have Lv 7.1.

Maybe it is not possible to compile 5.1.1 into 8.2.1? Anyway the repair of the run engine did not work. I still get the same error message. I tried the cd form Feb 07 and May 07. Rebooted the system  and tried to open again but no luck. Is there anything else i can try?

I meant to say 8.2.1 instead of 7.1. The article talks about 7.1, but it still applies.

I have no idea what you mean by "I compiled the 5.1.1 into 8.2.1". Are you saying you took VIs that were written in 5.1.1 and opened them in 8.2.1? This is possible, and would not affect not being able to run LabVIEW 8.2.1. Did you actually install LabVIEW 5.1, and if so, in what order did you install things? I also have no idea which cd you're referring to, as it's not like I can see what CDs you actually have.

The option in Add/Remove in the control panel instructed me to use the cd's for re-installing the run-time engine 7.1. Those were the cd's I was referring to. This re-installation did not cure the problem. Version 5.1.1 does not open in 8.2.1. So I think I might have to re-install Labview 8.2.1 to see if the problem disappears.

I used the "tools-advance-Mass compile " option the the Getting Started window to compile the version 5.1.1

LabVIEW 8.2 is capable of opening VIs written in 5.1. It will not be able to save them if they've been stripped of their block diagram. I'm still unclear of whether we're talking about the development environments here or the run-time engines (and which versions), as you still haven't answered the questions I've posed.

I did not load 5.1.1 after loading 8.2.1. I simply splaced the folder with the 5.1.1 VI's in the National Instruments directory and then used, in the 8.2.1 getting ready window, the tools>advanced>mass compile optie and navigated to the National Instruments directory and clicked on the folder were the 5.1.1 VI's are stored. then I clicked the folder button and the compiling started and finished without any errors. After the process was finished I tried to open the file but

Lv8.2.1 comes up with an error saying that it can not open 5.1.1

The VI's are not stripped of their block diagrams.

Yeah, that doesn't make a whole lot of sense unless you overwrote some 8.2 VIs. There's no reason to put the VIs in the 8.2 directory. In fact, your project VIs should be kept in your own project folder, so that if you need to reinstall LabVIEW then you don't lose your work.
