create mask to make black transparent

Hi
I'm trying to make the black parts of a bmp-file transparent. But it's not working? whats wrong?

You forgot to wire up the mask between unflatten and draw flattened.  The next trick will be matching the exact shade of black.

But this is odd. I thought the black parts would turn to transparent. Instead of this they're white. Isn't it possible to have them transparent? Whit this I would have white dots on a red background.

Use the paint brush tool to color the background of the picture as transparent.

This worked for me.
