creating instrument driver VI locks up labview when more than one parameter used

When using the create instrument driver VI wizard labview locks up whenever I use more than one parameter. I can generate a VI that uses the follow text/parameter:    CL %Channel%    but if I try and do      CL %Channel% %Mode%

When I push the finish button labview locks up and has to be restarted (see attachment). I've tried this on two computers. I am using the configure your own VI option and running Labview 2012. Any idea what I'm doing wrong?

How do you know that CL takes two parameters?

Because the programming manual states it does. Also I don't get any errors when I verify be clicking the run test. I've tried numerous command strings going so far as to run a command string that was used in an NI tutorial video that has two parameters and the system locks up.
