Do you use line input for your guitar?

im using a cable to connect the guitar to the laptop if thats what you mean

It could be that your soundcard is using the microphone gain setting. If your guitar has a line level output it would saturate the soundcard input stage, and you will get no sound output. You will find the settings I am talking about in the control panel.

ok I'll try that but when i tried the guitar on two similar labview examples the simultaneous sound i/o and the continuous sound input it worked fine

How does a guitar tuner work;) Do you want use the sound card as a reference signal? or something else

hi coq rouge sorry for taking do long to get back to you i just wanted to do a simple tuner which will compare the input signal of the guitar with signals of the six strings store in its memory, also regarding the processor i am doing when i go to add the effects to the guitar signal nothing is happening its just sort of skipping any idea why? when i simulated a signal and added the effects they worked fine is it something to do with the matlab code i am using maybe?
