If you are using traditional daq (not daqmx), the solution to your problem can be found in a KnowledgeBase at the following URL:

Basically, in the daq advanced sub-palette you can use the hardware config to retrieve the gain, just pass in the task id and nothing else and read the output cluster.

The gain setting defaults to unity gain, but it is selectable to x10 or x100, also. (This is your pre-digitizing gain, of course...after it's in digital form, you can tweak the gain to anything you want in your VI.
