Hi,

Is it possible to show a short movie in LabView ?

Thanks,

Lars.

Yes, there are several ways to accomplish this. Native to LabVIEW, you can display it one frame at a time in a Picture Ring or you can display it one frame at a time in the picture control (indicator). You can also embed an activeX control in the front panel and show a movie in that. Something like a Quick Time control or a Windows Media Player would work. You could also just invoke another application that plays the movie.

If you give us a few more details about what you are trying to accomplish, we could probably be more help in figuring out which you should decide.

Not knowing for sure what you are trying to do, attached is a VI that actually plays two movies at once in embedded Windows Media Player controls. I got this from an AE at NI named Evan.

Hi Lars,

You can play a movie by using windows media player embedded in an activex
control.
There is an example on the NI website on how to get Media Player to play
MP3's, It can be easily modified to run movies by going into the block
diagram and changing the pattern type on the 'List Directory' VI - leftmost
on the block diagram, from "*.mp3" to "*.mpg" or "*.avi" etc. Then expand
the size of the Activex control so you can see the movie view area (as the
VI was designed to play MP3's not videos, NI has minimised the view area by
resizing the control. The VI shows you how to control media player via
activex method and property nodes, it should become apparent how to take
full control if you study the example.

Dave.
