After you uninstall MAX, use regedit make sure that all registry keys are removed. If not, remove them manually. Now, always make a backup of the registry before you make any changes. This is all I can really suggest because it sounds like something is corrupt in your system. If this doesn't work, you may need to revert to the old reformat to get things up and running. Another thought is to uninstall all NI device drivers and MAX, then install them one at a time. It could be that only one of the device drivers is causing this and you can track down which one it is.
