Woah, NI have entirely removed the section titled Copying Environment Settings from a Previous Version of LabVIEW from the 2013 LabVIEW Upgrade Notes !!
This makes me concerned that simply copying your prior ini file and overwriting the latest labview.ini file could cause problems. I always wondered how LabVIEW coped with that because there will always be new entries in the file which if aren't re-generated would get lost forever.

Interesting.
I don't know if I'd be so concerned about overwriting the new .ini that may have new special entries in it. Usually if a need entry is missing, LabVIEW will add it. If you go through the properties dialog and change one minor thing, I think LabVIEW will fill in any missing items from the .ini file once it closes out and saves it. And I know you can just outright delete the .ini file and LabVIEW will create a new one with default settings in it. Sometimes that is recommended by NI support if you are in a situation where LabVIEW doesn't load right and seems to have something corrupted.

I'm trying to remember if it was in 2013 or if it is in the current beta, but there are a few settings that will be copied from previous version's ini file. I was told it is an experiment for the few and they will progress from there. That is likely why it was removed.

As a matter of fact, 2013 did introduce some preservation of ini settings. So, an install of 2013 in addition to 2012 does use the 2012 (possibly "Latest LabVIEW version?") ini to adjust a few key options. Not all of them but, enough that it is noticable if, like me, you wind up installing LabVIEW a few times every year sometimes on a "New" machine and sometimes on a "Legacy" machine. I still wish the custom menu shortcut key would import!
Of course, by the time you get to the point where you know what you want to customize in the ini, you know the Tools>>Options Dialog and just open it out of habit anyway (Or, carry a "LabVIEW.ini" on a thumb drive with your keys.) I do both.
Ideally, there would be a cloud based solution MyLabVIEW! is an idea which would certainly enclude ini keys. And perhaps something like "Tools>>Import MyLabVIEW Settings"
