labview 6.1 no longer available

I'm currently trying to get a price for a new license for LabVIEW, and am having a problem or two.

According to NI Switzerland, LV 6.1 is simply no longer available. We have plenty of software running/programmed under 6.1 which needs to be regularly adapted slightly to new tasks. And no, it's not desirable to re-write everything to allow for the dynamic loading of external code.

I'm a bit wary of upgrading to 7.1 just so that we can have another license (There are almost always subtle differences between the versions), but it seems to be the only way. Almost.

Reading through the LabVIEW license, it's possible to transfer the license to another party as long as the new parts agrees with the licensing (Which we do, otherwise we wouldn't be looking for additional licenses.....).

Is there any possibility of picking up an old single-seat license for the full or professional development system for LV 6.1?

Hi,

I think NI will allow you to use LV6.1 under a 7.1 license, if you ask them.
You do need the install cd's of course.

Er, I hate to admit it, but I hadn't thought of that.

The bottom line of the conversation I had was basically "Yup, you have to start working with 7.1.". I was a bit flabbergasted that the option of working further with 6.1 simply wasn't discussed, that I never actually asked.

Since we already have LV 6.1 (A single license) we already have the install CDs of course.

Hi Shane,

I have done this with NI Germany in a case where we developed an application under LV 6.1 and after we are ready our customer told me to buy a LV license. At this time LV 7.0 was on the market. We bought a LV 7.0 license and gave the customer a copy of our LV 6.1 CDs.
