labview 7.0 with remote pxi target

Dear All,

I am first time user of labVIEW7.0 & RT 7.0 and pxi.

In my application i am having

PXI chassis -- PXI-1002

Controller    NI PXI-8176

Timer I/Ocard   NI PXI-6602

and 2 Nos. Multifunction I/O NI PXI-6071E

I am using this PXI system as a remote system(IP address 172.24.10.162)  connected to host PC(IP address 172.24.10.163) with ethernet.

I am not able to connect device in MAX. I had tried proceedure  given in MAX help.

In MAX i have tried

     Remote systems >>>Remote Device>>>>Next >>>> IP address  172.24.10.162 >>>Finish

But error message display   " The device at this address is not supported"

If i do ping this system it is responding so network is OK.

I might be done some thing wrong.

Anybody have document for first time user of such application. Please give me and guide me to develop my application.

Vishnu,

working with PXI systems in a way like you describe is only possible for RT targets. If the controller is running in Windows, it's just another "PC".....

If LabVIEW RT is installed on the controller, the system should show itself in MAX without any further configuration if the PXI is in the same subnet as the host.

hope this helps,

Norbert

Dear Norbert,

        Thanks for help.

Actually i don't know the PXI subnet mask. I know only IP address as it is written on the top and i have checked that if i am sending packet on that it is responding by simple "ping" command. Is there any was to see subnet mask of PXI system?

I think is subnet mask is not matching then it wouldn't reply to "ping'.

In past on this system other person was working and right now he is not available. Now i have ot work and i don't have any document. i am new user of LABVIEW  and PXI system.

 Thanks again.

Vishnu,

if the PXI system is configured correctly (including subnet), it should appear in the "network" area in MAX automatically. Maybe it has an aliasname, so it appears as <YourPXISystemName> in MAX.

If it does not appear, it can have different reasons:

a) active firewall, please try with the firewall deactivated (if acceptable by your IT department!)

b) the system is in another subnet. If gateways are configured correctly, it is possible to ping that system, but it might not appear in MAX.

Maybe you want also look into this thread. It seems a little similar to your issue.....

hope this helps,

Norbert

Dear Norbert,

I have tried and finaly i got PXI in MAX.  But now i have permission error- 0xBFFF00A8(VI_ERROR_MPERMISSION). I don't know why now this is coming. What type of permission we have to set.

Communication link between Development PC and PXI system is Ether net.

Dear Norbert,

Thanks for your help. As i have already written that i could connect to my remote PXI via MAX 3.0.  But when i installed evaluation version of LV8.6, MAX was upgrade to version 4.5. Now In MAX i can see Remote PXI chassis, But Devices in PXI chassis can't visible.    What can be the solution of this?
