labview 8.6 cannot successfully use the dll of c# .net framework 4.0

When I use C# dll the following message appears "The selected file is not a .NET assembly, type library or automation executable" .

Is there any way to improve?

1) Upgrade LabVIEW version.

2) Downgrade .NET framework.

Seriously, it's not reasonable to expect a x year old technique to work on a y year old program if y>x (in this case y-x > 5).

I think .NET compatibility got better in LV12.
