labview won't load

Hi, i'm using labview 7.1, and all was working fine until yesterday, when it would just crash when I tried to load it. After uninstalling it all, and then reinstalling it, it seemed to work until I installed the PID toolkit, at which point it started to crash as soon as I tried to load it. Does anyone have any ideas?

It crashes during the loading screen, and the text in the bottom right corner of the loading screen is 'Init menus'. When it crashes one of those windows messages appear that says: "LabVIEW 7.1 Development System has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry...".

I'm running windows XP.

Thanks!

If it's crashing while the Init Menus is being displayed, it's a good bet that one of the menu file (*.mnu) is corrupted. The *.mnu files are teh palette view definition files. In this case, it appears that the PID menu is the culprit.

You could try deleting the menu file for the PID toolkit. Look in "...\National Instruments\LabVIEW 7.1\vi.lib\addons\control\pid" and you should see a file named "dir.mnu". Delete this and try starting LabVIEW. If it still crashes, restore that file and go to "C:\National Instruments\LabVIEW 7.1\vi.lib\addons\control" and delete teh "dir.mnu" file there.

Let us know if that works. If it does, we'll have to manually add the PID tools back into the palette so you can get at them.

what type was it that you had installed. Please post how you fixed the problem so that other readers that may have the same problem in the future will be able to fix their problem as well.

I had installed an IOTech menu, but I'm surprised that that was what was causing me the problems. I was playing around with the paletter view options the other day and I think that's what did it.

But, to fix it I just went into the menu folder in the Labview 7.1 folder and removed the IOTech folder, and it works 😄
