looking for a LabVIEW interface for controlling a material test stand

Thank you, gwd, for those VIs.  I am working with an Instron 4201 - is this similar to your machine?

I am using a GPIB to interface the computer with the Instron equipment.  After installing the GPIB, there was sample VI that came from National Instruments with the GPIB, but it did not seem to communicate with the Instron using a basic command.

I think one of my main problems is that I do not know the GPIB address of my Instron machine.  How can I go about getting that?

- look at your manual to see what the commands are, the syntax may well be the same

- if the instrument is like mine the address is set with dipswitches on the back of the control unit. Again, your manual will say.

- I recommend writing a vi to do something very simple (like a reset). Use this to verify that you have communication with the instrument before attempting anything else.

Hi and sorry I am so late getting in on this conversation. Could you send me a contact email regarding the interfacing to an Instron test frame?

Hello Alex,

I am working with a MTS QTest/25 with a similar issue (old computer and need to be able to run LabVIEW to run tests). How did you go about replacing the old equipment and installing this new software?
