I have run across two resources that might be useful. I have only seen one example that uses that AT commands. It demonstrates how to send a numeric page through a modem using LabVIEW. It can be found on the following web page: http://venus.ni.com/stage/we/niepd_web_display.DISPLAY_EPD4?p_guid=B45EACE3E11B56A4E034080020E74861&p_node=DZ52059&p_submitted=N&p_rank=&p_answer=&p_source=Internal

There is also a KnoledgeBase on NI web page that gives some good information on programming for modems. It can be found here: http://digital.ni.com/public.nsf/3efedde4322fef19862567740067f3cc/8ec833da692dfba286256ba100020214?OpenDocument

A good way to think about this sort of thing is that until it connects, the modem is just another serial device device that has it's own (somewhat strange) command language called AT commands. The AT command set has been around for decades and is well documented, and is not very hard to work with. For a very simple example:

ATDT

dials the modem. When it connnects with the other end, it will send back to you a message something like:

CONNECT 2400

where the number is the speed you connected at. Once it's connected, the modem is essentially a wire.

When you're done sending data, give a second or 2 of no data and then send:

+++

this escape sequence tells the modem to stop emulating a wire and go back into command mode. It wi
ll send:

OK

to let you know it did, and you hangup by sending:

ATH

Piece o' cake...

What specifically are you wanting to do with the modem?

mike,
you seem like you are really familiar with modem communications. I am trying to have my Labview 7.0 program to answer a phone call from a cellular phone and then allow me to work with the analog data coming in. I want to do this to allow me to run labview data acquistion from the computer when i am not in the same room, hence, via cell phone.
thanks
Jared

We have a series of modems and internet modem devices which can surely fit your needs.

Direct machine-to-machine interaction represents the next logical extension of the internet. Cermetek internet modem (iModem) products are designed to exploit the internet to facilitate the utilization of machine-to-machine interactions. Using email, information can be transferred between systems and can be transmitted/retrieved at will. Internet email provides low cost, near real time multi-path communication. Replacing traditional modems and long distance telephone lines with local access internet connections, reduces fixed asset and maintenance costs, limits communication expenses and saves money.
All Cermetek iModem products contain a user friendly interface lay
er that provides the user transparent access to the internet. Using macro commands the user can direct the iModem to compose, edit/modify, send, retrieve and delete messages. Internet and email status is reported via the iModems serial interface.

For more information call or e-mail.
