new IEEE 488.2 driver for windows

I read about the 2.0 version of this driver for all NI GPIB interfaces in
the Instrumentation newsletter- thought I would give it a try.
I had the version 1.1 driver, for the USB-A installed on win 2k. That is
still listed as the "current" driver when you navigate NI.com.
This software requires NI VISA 2.6.1, and I could only find 2.6.0 on the NI
site.
The upgrade didn't work without it.

Can someone tell me a little more about this driver? The article made it
sound like I should go right out and get it- but it seemed a little bit
hidden on the NI site, and then I find out I need other stuff, can't seem to
find a link to buy it either?
Is this beta software or something?
The idea of a unified driver that supports all interfaces sounds
very
interesting.

Thanks.

Chad,

The website should be updated now. NI-488.2 version 2.0 is released. You can see the current list of GPIB drivers at the http://ni.com/support/gpib/versions.htm page. You can find out more about each driver version by clicking on the appropriate link. You can find this page from the main http://www.ni.com/support page by clicking on the Drivers and Updates link under Option 3. Then, when you take the Current Versions link, you will see links for GPIB and VISA.

As noted on the page, since the GPIB-USB-A hardware already comes with a license, you can download the NI-488.2 driver directly.

NI-VISA 2.6.1 is highly recommended for version 2.0, but it is not required. If you wish to purchase NI-VISA 2.6.1, you can contact your Sales Representative
as the Current Versions link for VISA describes. One way is to use the Contact NI link at the top right corner of the webpage.
